About this work

A monstrous horned creature with a wolf-like snarling head rises in the dark background directly behind a rearing horse. Below, two nude figures are bound and suspended upside down over the horse's hindquarters, one clutching a bowl to his mouth; nearby a hooded, hunched man and a small robed figure perched on a stool occupy the center, while at right a bell-costumed jester and a long-haired nude woman stand together. The scene unfolds on a diamond-tiled floor, with an ex-libris roundel and Russian inscription reading "7 deadly sins" printed beneath the image.

Dense, meticulous cross-hatching in black ink builds deep, velvety shadows against stark white highlights, with every fold of skin, fur, and drapery rendered in fine needle-line texture. The crowded, claustrophobic arrangement and distorted anatomy give the etching a nightmarish, Bosch-like density and a dramatic, unsettling charge.
