Winter

Clusters of bare, frost-covered branches rise from a blanket of snow, their dark forms gathered toward the center where a patch of pale golden light breaks through. The composition dissolves at the edges into soft drifts of white and grey, leaving the exact setting loosely defined.

The palette is built almost entirely from whites, violet-greys, and pale ochre, applied in thick, knife-textured strokes that blur individual branches into a single frosted mass. Diffused, even light and heavy impasto give the scene a hushed, dreamlike stillness.
