About this work
An expanse of turquoise sea and pale sky fills most of the composition, with a gentle wave breaking along a wide sandy shore. On the right, palm trees and a cluster of thatched huts shelter two beached wooden boats with white and blue hulls, near which a small figure works close to the water's edge.
Strong sunlight is rendered in a bright, high-key palette of turquoise, tan and green, applied with loose, economical strokes that leave much of the sea and sky flat and open. The wide, uncluttered composition and warm light give the scene a relaxed, breezy calm.
