About this work
A ballerina with a powdered white wig poses en pointe, arms crossed at her chest, set within the round dial of a giant clock. Her frilled white tutu and gold-trimmed bodice fill the clock's center, her legs and pointed toes extending down toward the six, while black Roman numerals and scrollwork fill the face around her.
Warm browns and antique gold dominate the clock face, set against a mustard-colored outer border painted with raised, gilded floral scrollwork. The tutu's ruffles are built up in thick, textured strokes of white and cream, giving weight and sparkle against the flatter, more graphic rendering of the timepiece, and lending the whole a whimsical, storybook charm.
