About this work

A young girl in a deep red hood and cloak stands centered in a rustic archway woven from dry branches, gripping a wooden staff. Above her hangs a painted lintel with pomegranates and a goldfinch; roses and small birds cluster along the twig frame set against a scarlet ground. Through the opening behind her, a fantastical landscape unfolds: a spiraling white staircase, arched village houses, green hills, and grazing sheep under a pale sky.

Pattern dominates the surface: the twig weave, faceted stained-glass-like shards of color at the girl's sides, and dense floral borders flatten the space into ornament, while the crimson ground pushes everything forward. Brushwork is meticulous and jewel-toned, combining thick red saturation with delicate detail in the birds and flowers. The effect is decorative and dreamlike, a fairy-tale threshold suspended between a garden and an imagined town.
