About this work
Tall deciduous trees with slender dark trunks lean and arch across the composition, their canopies turned to bright yellow, orange and lingering green. A thick carpet of fallen leaves in ochre and rust covers the ground, broken by a narrow path curving toward a glimpse of still water on the left, with deeper woodland receding hazily behind the nearer trunks.
The palette is built from warm yellows and oranges against a cooler blue-green depth further into the trees, with sunlight filtering through the canopy onto clusters of leaves. Foliage and fallen leaves are rendered in short, dabbed strokes giving the surface a lively texture, while trunks are drawn smoothly in dark brown, producing a warm, tranquil late-autumn atmosphere.
