About this work

A vast, cloud-filled sky occupies almost the entire canvas, its dark gray masses parting to reveal a narrow band of glowing peach and rose light along the horizon. Beneath this sky, a low, distant silhouette of buildings, a dome and industrial structures lines a flat, snow-covered embankment, with faint tracks crossing the pale foreground.

Broad, confident strokes of slate gray and charcoal model the billowing clouds, thinned in places to let warm underlying light bleed through. The tiny, dark skyline anchors the composition at the very bottom edge, and the contrast between the immense luminous sky and the modest strip of city gives the scene a hushed, expansive drama.
