About this work
A solitary dancer is caught mid-movement, torso thrown back and head tilted, one arm reaching high and the other extended sideways, legs set in a wide stance suggesting a deep backbend. The figure fills nearly the whole small panel, a compact, twisting silhouette against an abstracted backdrop.
Executed in rapid, visible strokes with little blending, the sketch sets pale cream and ochre for costume and skin against slashes of grey-blue and rust-orange. The loose handling and unresolved edges give it the immediacy of a study made from life, capturing motion rather than fine detail.
