About this work
Rolling golden fields, cut and banked in broad strokes, stretch across the middle distance, divided by dark green hedgerows and clusters of trees. Low distant hills and a scattering of small buildings sit at the horizon, beneath a wide sky filled with soft, layered clouds. The foreground slopes down through shadowed green grass toward the viewer.
The palette moves from warm ochre and straw yellow in the fields to violet-grey in the sky and blue-green in the hills, giving a strong sense of depth. Brushwork is loose and confident, laid on in short, directional strokes that describe cut grain and foliage without fussy detail.
