About this work

Seen from a steep, tilted angle, the composition centers on a bullfighter's costume - pink stockings, a green sash and pink jacket - sprawled diagonally across a dark, bulky mass that reads as a bull's body and horn. A hand reaches out from beneath the fallen figure, and a second limb appears at the lower edge of the canvas, suggesting a collision rather than a posed moment.

Near-black shadow and broken white highlights dominate, against which the costume's pink and green read as a searing accent, painted in slashing, gestural strokes that dissolve anatomy into abstracted shapes. Forms overlap and blur, denying a single clear reading of the action. The effect is violent and disorienting, closer to the shock of an instant caught mid-fall than to a conventional bullfighting scene.
