About this work
Three containers, a beige ceramic jug, a tall glass vase and a white enamel milk can, hold three distinct bunches of tulips: soft cream blooms on the left, near-black purple tulips rising behind, and open red tulips filling the right side. All stand on a pale, faintly reflective table against a plain light backdrop.
Broad, confident brushstrokes describe the petals in flat planes of red, cream and deep violet, set off by loosely scumbled green stems and grey-white background. Soft reflections in the tabletop echo the colors above, and the overall handling is direct and economical, giving the grouping a fresh, casual, everyday charm.
