About this work
Two small houses, one with ochre walls and one whitewashed with a dark doorway, stand close together along a sloping alley. Telephone poles and wires cross overhead, while red and orange flowering shrubs and dense green foliage crowd around the walls and rooflines. A shadowed path leads into the foreground.
Warm ochre, white and green tones are punctuated by red-orange floral accents, applied in thick, textured strokes with a palette knife. Bold sunlight-and-shadow contrast across the lane creates an intimate, sun-baked impression of a quiet Mediterranean-style backstreet, rendered with loose, energetic impressionist handling.
