About this work

A glass jar packed with bright orange, yellow and dark red marigold-like blooms stands amid pale green and blushed apples scattered across a rumpled orange cloth. More apples gather on a white plate in front, one still attached to a leafy twig.

Thick, confident strokes of orange and rust build the cloth, contrasting with the cooler yellow-greens and pinks of the apples and the hot orange and burgundy of the flowers. Light falls from above, picking out rounded highlights on the fruit and the textured petals of the bouquet. The warm, saturated palette gives the still life a rich, autumnal cheer.
