About this work
A wicker basket brims with freshly cut lilac branches in white, pale pink and deep purple, their heart-shaped green leaves tucked among the clustered blossoms. The flowers spill over the basket's rim and onto the surface below, filling almost the entire canvas with no visible background beyond a muted, undefined wall.
Thick, loaded brushstrokes and palette-knife texture build up the dense clusters of tiny petals, alternating cool violet shadows with warm pink and white highlights. The loose, tactile handling and close-up framing give the still life an intimate, fragrant immediacy.
