About this work
A dense rose bush fills the frame, its branches heavy with roughly a dozen fully opened red blooms and several tight buds among dark green, glossy leaves. Small purple wildflowers grow at the base, and a stone wall or path is faintly visible through gaps in the foliage. No sky, figures, or other objects intrude on the close, tangled view of the shrub.
The reds range from bright vermilion to deep crimson, set against varied greens built from short, choppy strokes that suggest sunlit and shaded leaves. Paint is applied thickly on the blooms, thinly in the background, giving the surface a lively, textured rhythm. The close framing and saturated color create a warm, vibrant, sun-warmed garden mood.
