About this work
A man in a striped prison uniform is caught draped over several rows of barbed wire, arms flung upward, one hand trailing a torn white cloth. A red target mark and a small tag mark his chest. To the right a gloved hand points a pistol at him from behind the wire, beneath a guard tower fitted with searchlights and a helmeted soldier standing watch.
The scene is rendered in cold, near-monochrome blue, with only the small red target breaking the palette. Forms are simplified into sharp, angular facets, and the barbed wire forms a scratchy web of black lines across the surface. The stark, graphic treatment gives the image a harsh, urgent tension around the moment of capture.
