About this work
A tall white stone church with a single dark, onion-shaped dome and a gilded cross rises alone above an open, snow-covered field. A small outbuilding sits beside it, and a stand of bare-branched trees rises to the right against a pale, cloud-streaked sky. Snow covers the flat ground in front of the church, unbroken except for faint tonal shifts.
Pale washes of blue-grey and cream, softened by wet-on-wet blending, dissolve the horizon into the sky and give the snow a luminous, misty quality. The dome's near-black silhouette provides the only sharp accent in an otherwise hushed, muted palette. The result is a still, serene winter view centered on quiet devotion.
