About this work
A whitewashed church with three gilded onion domes and a tent-roofed bell tower rises beyond a weathered wooden picket fence half-buried in snow. Bare-branched trees stand along the fence line and in front of the building, their thin trunks silhouetted against the pale sky. A snow-covered path curves through the foreground, drawing the eye toward the monastery walls in the distance.
Cool blues and grays dominate, warmed by soft gold on the domes and hints of amber light behind the trees. Washes are loose and translucent, with bare paper left for snow, while darker, drier strokes define the fence posts and branches. The scene reads as calm and hushed, a quiet winter view of a monastery at rest.
