About this work

A shaded canal-side promenade curves away under heavy green foliage, with a stone balustrade and iron railing running along the water's edge. A low arched bridge crosses the canal in the middle distance, beyond which pink and ochre buildings with tiled roofs line the far bank under a pale sky.

Loose, layered watercolor washes build dense canopies of green and gold, softening into diffuse reflections on the canal's surface. Warm light filters through the leaves onto the pale stone walk, giving the scene a calm, dappled, sunlit tranquility typical of a quiet riverside stroll.
