About this work
A low stone bridge with white balustrades and statues spans the Tiber, leading the eye toward a cluster of ochre buildings and a large ribbed dome rising behind them. A river wall and a single lamppost occupy the foreground, with bare branches arching in from the upper left.
Cool blue-grey sky contrasts with warm terracotta and pink building facades, their colors doubled in soft reflections on the green-blue water. Thick dabs of paint model the stonework and foliage, creating a hushed, slightly overcast atmosphere along the riverside.
