About this work
A warm tan-ochre ground is dominated in its upper half by thick black and cream strokes suggesting broken letterforms, with a rounded dark smudge near the center. The lower half carries finer scratched cursive lines and numerals, and a small dated monogram sits at the lower right.
Ochre, cream and black make up the palette, with thick impasto scraped and incised to reveal lighter ground beneath the dark overpaint. The layered scratches and rough, tactile surface create a warm, dusty light and a quiet tension between mark-making and erasure.
