About this work
A cluster of white monastic buildings with pitched roofs and slender towers stretches along the horizon, crowned by golden and silver onion domes catching the last light. Dark trees frame the complex on either side. A wide meadow of tall grass and low shrubs, streaked with green, pink and violet, fills the middle ground below.
Soft, blended pastel strokes render sky and meadow in muted mauve, green and grey, against which small bright accents of gold on the domes stand out sharply. Colour is suggestive rather than descriptive, with forms softening toward the edges. The mood is quiet and reflective, an evening view of an old town glimpsed across open fields.
