Sunset

A soft orange sun sits low in a misty sky above a calm expanse of water, its warm light spreading into pale violet and grey clouds. Dark, feathery silhouettes of reeds fill the near shore on the left, while low tree lines and small islands stretch across the far bank, all doubled in the still surface below.

Thin, wet-on-wet washes of orange, yellow and lavender bleed softly into one another, giving the whole scene a diffuse, glowing haze. Only the reeds and distant trees are set down with any firmness, painted in short dry strokes of blue-grey against the luminous wash of the water. The effect is quiet and dreamlike, a fleeting moment of light over a still lake.
