About this work
A cluster of chickens, a red-combed rooster prominent among them, peck and move across bare earth and patches of grass; their bodies overlap in the crowded foreground, a strip of green foliage visible along the top edge, and sharp cast shadows stretch across the ground, indicating strong overhead sun.
Warm ochres, browns and whites are built up with vigorous palette-knife strokes, with deep blue-black shadow accents anchoring the composition; the bright directional light and dense paint texture give the barnyard scene an energetic, sun-baked immediacy.
