About this work
Bare, spindly trees rise across the foreground in a dark screen of trunks and branches, their silhouettes overlapping against a paler middle ground where the low roofs and walls of a village emerge through haze. A hint of a standing figure and scattered structures sit along a horizontal band, suggesting a settlement seen from its outskirts.
The ink is diluted into warm sepia washes for the sky and buildings, then built up in dense, dry, near-black strokes for the tree trunks and foliage in front. Loose, rapid brushwork and strong tonal contrast create a hazy, atmospheric depth typical of a plein-air study.
