About this work
A near-monochrome dark surface is broken only by a faceted, ship-prow-like wedge of lighter tone in the lower left, a thin diagonal line marked with small ticks, and scattered pale scratches across the field; a numeral and cursive notes appear faintly at the top and a signature at lower right.
Built up in heavy blacks and warm grays with silver-pencil highlights, the surface has a scraped, sanded texture that catches light unevenly. The reduction to a single dark tonal mass with sparse linear incisions gives the sheet a brooding, minimal, almost nocturnal quality.
