About this work

Two white roosters lunge at each other in mid-air, wings flung open and feathers flying, their red combs and wattles the only sharp color in the collision; bodies overlap at the center of the canvas while the ground and surrounding foliage dissolve into a dense, undefined green-brown thicket.

Thick palette-knife impasto in white, ochre and moss green builds up the birds' plumage in heavy ridges of paint, gestural diagonal strokes conveying sudden violent motion; the contrast of fiery red against cool, murky green creates a tense, dramatic mood of mid-fight energy.
