About this work
Jagged, irregular color fields are arranged like a row of mountain peaks rising against a solid black background. Orange and ochre summits stand at left, a deep blue peak with a dark cave-like opening sits at center, and pale blue-white and gray forms suggest snow-capped heights to the right, with a rust-orange plane closing the composition.
Acrylic is built up in thick, bubbled, almost lava-like texture, with drips and pooled pigment breaking each color field into a rough relief. The heavy black ground intensifies the saturated blues, oranges and greens, giving the abstracted range a monumental presence and a hushed, contemplative stillness.
