About this work

Robed, helmeted courtiers in gold, red, and orange crowd around him, several raising long trumpets; a caged pink bird hangs from a branch above, and a nude figure lies face-down on cracked pale stone at the foot of the throne, beneath a sign reading 'Sacrifice.'
Saturated golds, reds, and greens are set against a bright blue sky and rolling hills, painted with flat, stylized forms and firm outlines reminiscent of folk or icon painting.
