About this work
A young ballerina in a pale pink tutu and dark bodice is caught mid-step at the center of a rehearsal room, one leg extended and arms held out for balance. Around her, loosely brushed groups of dancers in white and pale costumes cluster near the barre and the sides of the studio, their forms dissolving into patches of color rather than distinct detail.
Executed quickly in creamy beige, dove-grey and soft pink, the small study relies on broad, unblended strokes and dabs of paint to suggest movement and crowd rather than describe it precisely.
