About this work
A single female figure stands in three-quarter profile on an empty sheet of toned paper, her dark, loosely gathered dress falling past the knee while one arm bends upward so her hand rests near her chin in a thoughtful gesture. Bare legs and feet are indicated with a few quick, wiry lines, and her hair is pulled back, leaving the face largely unresolved.
Executed almost entirely in black, gray, and white pastel, the figure is built from broad chalky strokes and smudged shading that leave much of the warm paper tone showing through as light.
