About this work
A man sits cross-legged in a bare chair, his patterned jacket striped in blue and rust over a white shirt open at the collar. One hand shields his eyes or forehead in an orange-toned gesture while the other rests on his knee holding a pencil against a sheet of paper. His legs, in wide blue-striped trousers, cross casually, one boot dangling loose against the mottled, bare ground.
Loose etched contour lines are overlaid with patches of raw orange, blue and green color, leaving much of the toned paper untouched. Scratchy cross-hatching and spattered ink marks give the sheet a restless, unfinished energy, while the sitter's guarded gesture lends the print a quiet, inward mood.
