About this work
A bearded man in a striped robe sits barefoot and cross-legged inside the curved hull of a boat under construction, arms crossed over his knees. Around him lie loose planks, coiled wood shavings and tools, while pigeons perch on the scaffolding ribs and wooden slats framing the open sky above.
The hull's interior is painted in bold sweeps of red, crimson and gold that curve around the seated figure like ripples, contrasting with the muted grey-brown of his clothing and the pale plumage of the birds.
