Rainy

Steep, mist-wrapped slopes rise on both sides of a narrow stretch of water, their forms softened by a visible sheet of rain falling in vertical streaks across the center of the view. A small white boat rests near the far shore, the only compact, clearly drawn shape in an otherwise dissolving landscape.

Cool violets, blue-greys and muted greens are laid on in broad, loaded strokes, with the rain rendered as dragged pale highlights over darker underpainting. The loose, economical brushwork and soft edges evoke the damp, hushed atmosphere of a mountain shower over open water.
