About this work
A human face, eyes shut and features softened almost to abstraction, hovers behind a curtain of vertical drips and scraped lines running the full height of the canvas. The streaking paint obscures the features so that nose, mouth, and brow are only partially legible beneath the surface.
Cool greys, olive greens, and slate blues are dragged downward in thin rivulets over a warmer flesh-toned ground, as if the image were being washed away. The dripping technique and muted, rain-like palette give the picture a melancholic, dissolving quality, the face receding rather than emerging.
