About this work
A single figure stands bent at the waist, arms hanging loosely toward the floor and head lowered so the face is hidden. The dark leotard reads as a near-black triangle against pale bare arms and legs, set within a loosely brushed interior suggested by hanging drapes at upper right.
Ochre, olive and dusty blue are scumbled together in broken strokes, leaving the figure half-dissolved in its own surroundings. Thin glazes and dry brushwork build a soft, faded atmosphere, while the pale body catches what little light there is. The overall feeling is weary and introspective, a private moment of rest between exertions.
