About this work
A jagged rock promontory juts into the sea as waves break against its base, throwing up white foam and turquoise spray. The view is taken from a grassy bluff, with tiered rock formations receding toward a hazy horizon under an overcast sky.
The palette is dominated by cool greys, olive browns and turquoise, applied in loose, energetic strokes that capture the movement of breaking water. Thick dabs of white paint render the foam and mist, giving the scene an immediate, plein-air freshness and a slightly moody, wind-swept atmosphere.
