About this work
A large, scuffed leather travel bag with buckled straps hangs against a dark void in the upper half, beneath a beam marked with faint chalk notations. Below, a brick wall hung with old tools - pliers, a hand drill, tongs - flanks a very large pale pumpkin on a wood-plank table, ringed by onions, garlic bulbs and a few wilted rose stems.
The palette stays earthy - grays and browns for the bag and tools, dusty brick red, and the pumpkin's chalky off-white. Cracked leather, papery onion skin, rusted iron and wood grain are all rendered with meticulous, even-lit precision. The pairing of unrelated objects under this cool, exacting light gives the still life an uncanny, dreamlike quality.
