About this work

A dark green-teal jacket is draped over a metal dressmaker's stand, its collar and sleeves catching cool highlights. A small red glove is tucked into the breast pocket, the only warm accent in the scene. Behind it, the wall dissolves into a loose wash of blue, violet and grey with no other setting indicated.

Cool blues, teals and violets are brushed in soft patches that give the background a hazy, unfixed quality, while the jacket is built up with thicker, textured strokes and flecks of green and ochre. The stand's white metal frame is rendered in crisp, sculptural lines anchoring the loose surroundings. The red glove draws the eye as a quiet, mysterious focal point.
