About this work
Tall grass rendered in dry, vertical strokes fills most of the canvas in warm golden-olive tones, its blades scratched and dragged across the surface. A dense, near-black maroon mass of clustered seed heads and speckled white flecks rises through the center-right, acting as a hinge between the sunlit field on the left and a pale, almost white passage of open ground or water in the lower right corner.
Paint is built up in layered drips, spatters, and dry-brush drags, with ochre and olive dominating against near-black shadow and chalky white light. The strong tonal contrast and encrusted surface give the field an unusually dramatic, charged mood compared to a typical hazy meadow study.
