About this work
An arched brick and stone facade with paired columns rises above a canal, its lower arches shadowed and its upper red-brick wall lit by sun. Overhanging green branches and vines drape across the composition on both sides, and the building's reflection ripples in the dark water below.
Warm terracotta and ochre brick tones contrast with cool blue-gray shadows in the archways and lively yellow-green foliage framing the scene. The paint is applied in dense, textured strokes, with dappled light breaking through the leaves onto the stonework. The interplay of sunlit brick, shade and greenery gives the scene a lush, vibrant warmth.
