About this work
A canal runs between two embankments, cream, ochre and terracotta buildings lining the left bank where a moored boat with a striped awning serves as a floating café alongside several small motorboats. On the right, a granite quay with steps and a stone parapet runs past parked cars and a row of trees toward the same distant buildings.
Warm creams and ochres play against blue-green water and a pale sky, pastel strokes describing sunlit facades and the gentle ripple of reflections. The midday light is calm and even, giving the working canal an unhurried, everyday atmosphere.
