About this work
Seen from behind, a slender nude woman stands on a barren, rust-colored rocky terrain, weight shifted onto one hip as she turns her head to look toward an enormous ring-shaped metal apparatus tilted at the horizon. The tall, narrow composition sets her solitary figure against a wide expanse of empty, alien-looking ground and pale open sky.
Warm ochre and rust tones of the ground meet a pale, almost colorless sky, while smooth academic modeling of the figure contrasts with the hard, engineered lines of the distant structure. Soft, even light with no strong cast shadow lends the scene a still, contemplative calm.
