About this work
On a cloth-draped table, a boiled egg rests upright in a small cup at the center, flanked by irregular lumps of bread or pastry to the left. Behind them a large, rounded dark shape, touched with a fleck of pale yellow light and a streak of magenta, looms against a shadowed green-black backdrop.
Color is kept muted and earthy, greens, browns and ochres, with only scattered touches of yellow and magenta breaking the gloom. Paint is applied in thick, gouged ridges with palette knife and brush, giving the surface a rough, tactile texture and a hushed, dim-lit mood.
