About this work
A stand of slender birch trunks rises against a clear blue sky, their crowns catching warm golden and coppery light while darker evergreens fill the space behind them. In the foreground, the ground is a mix of exposed brown earth and lingering patches of white snow, marking the transition of the season.
The paint is applied in loose, choppy strokes, with the sky and foliage built from broken touches of blue, orange and pink. Warm sunlight rakes across the trunks and snow, contrasting the cool shadows in the woods behind. The brushwork is energetic and fresh, giving the scene an open-air, sunlit brightness.
