About this work
A gently undulating field filled edge to edge with yellow-flowering plants dominates the composition, its furrowed rows receding toward a low horizon lined with a few trees and a strip of reddish-brown earth. The pale, softly clouded sky occupies a narrow band at the top.
Vivid cadmium yellow and chartreuse are built up in thick, directional knife strokes that follow the furrows of the field, with cooler green and violet shadows giving the rows volume. Warm, even daylight and the sheer density of color create a bright, high-summer intensity across the canvas.
