Spring at the mountains

A hillside orchard bursts into white blossom below a range of snow-covered peaks, a small timber-roofed hut tucked among the flowering branches and a dark conifer anchoring the left edge. Layered ridges recede in cool blue and violet toward the horizon, while a strip of green meadow and a bare dirt path open along the bottom of the canvas.

Thick, loaded strokes of white, pink and green build the blossoms directly on the canvas, set against smoother washes of blue in the distant mountains. Heavy impasto and visible brushmarks give the scene an energetic, sunlit freshness, evoking the fleeting brightness of a mountain spring.
