About this work
A thick tangle of leafless brush and small trees stretches across the middle of the composition, its dark silhouette contrasting a pale foreground of frost-covered grass and a milky sky above. No figures, animals, or structures appear; it is a purely natural band of scrubland seen from a low, close vantage point, as if standing at the edge of a snow-covered meadow.
Muted greys, browns and blue-white tones dominate throughout, laid thinly at the ground and sky before thickening into visible dry-brush strokes across the branches, so texture emerges mainly in the thicket itself. Soft edges and a milky haze blur the distance, evoking the flat light and hush of a foggy winter day.
