About this work
A column of mounted riders and horses surges toward the viewer through a shallow flood, their legs and hooves splashing and casting broken reflections across the water's surface. A young woman with flowing dark hair rides at the center on a pale horse, flanked by armored companions and standard-bearers, while a burst of orange flame glows on the right amid the grey and cream mass of the group.
Painted in loose, dragged strokes of grey, ochre, and white, the composition dissolves into near-abstraction at the edges, with the reflective water rendered through smeared, dripping paint. The muted, smoky palette is broken only by the fiery orange accent, giving the charge a dramatic, urgent momentum.
