"Solovetskaya street"

In front of rows of wooden and brick apartment houses, a crowd of stylized figures fills a bare dirt yard: a man plays a wind instrument, another lies collapsed on the ground, and an elderly man kneels to grip the waist of a young woman bared to the waist. A boy in an orange motocross helmet leans on a stick, a dog trots past, and a child swings in the distance, while two attenuated red and blue figures hang from poles like scarecrows.

Thick, agitated brushwork and drips of red and blue paint run down over a mustard-yellow ground and a streaked, multicolored sky. Faces are pushed toward caricature and the palette clashes bright color against grimy houses, giving the village setting an unsettled, almost violent undertone.
